Ancient villa discovered thanks to internet maps

An Italian computer programmer has discovered the remains of an ancient Roman villa after browsing maps and photographs downloaded from the internet.

Luca Mori was looking at Google Earth images of the region around his town of Sorbolo, near Parma, when he noticed a shaded oval area more than 500 metres (1,640ft) long, which marked the path of an ancient river.

He reasoned that curious rectangular shadows nearby must be a buried structure and alerted the National Archaeological Museum of Parma. Ceramic fragments found at the site indicate a Roman villa.

END

This would be so awesome! Imagine surfing along and finding something odd. Having it turn out to really be something would be awesome (wait, I said that already). *snort*

Wicca & Witchcraft

Posted by Mandy Roth on Sep 19, 2005 in Hell If I Know What It Should Be Labeled

I’m collecting data on Wicca, its tradition, practice, types of, people who practice it, common misconceptions and am looking for anyone who would have the time answer my questions. They are basic and few in number but would help me better understand all there is to know.

Also, if person helping me agrees, I will post the answers in a Q&A interview format on my blog and website with the name they supply and any link (s) they wish to have up.

Since I write paranormal (let’s face it, it’s at least 95%) of what I do, I explore the fictional world of witchcraft often. I do so in a fictional format. That being said, I do try my best to incorporate at least some of the beliefs of practicing members of the wicca way. I also represent various types/ paths.

If you practice and would like to participate, please email me offlist at mandy@mandyroth.com . SORRY BUT YOU MUST BE 18 years or older to participate. I have a small list of rather simple questions that I’m compiling that I think will help others understand this better. I could post something on my own but it would be better coming from ‘officials’. My goal is educate here.

Vampires, Werewolves, & Faeries….

Posted by Mandy Roth on Sep 16, 2005 in Hell If I Know What It Should Be Labeled

I’m gathering information, collecting my notes and attempting to organize in some fashion that will allow me to write some (I hope you find them) interesting things about all aspects of the paranormal, including but not limited to: vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, faeries, spirits, ghosts, demons, witches and more.

I’ll also be taking a look at the latest in movies, books and websites dealing with such topics and of course, ones that toss a heady does of sex into the mix are always my kind of thing! LOL!

Lost n’ Found or Just a Myth?

Posted by Mandy Roth on Sep 14, 2005 in Hell If I Know What It Should Be Labeled

Atlantis, we’ve all heard about it. That great, technologically advanced super city that vanished–was swallowed by the sea. Anyway, the flooding in New Orleans made me think about it so I thought I’d post some interesting links about it and let you all give your thoughts. Do you think this city/civilization ever existed? If so why? If not why? I’m curious to get your feedback as I dig deeper, gathering information for what you all know is coming—a series based off the legends.

Nice article that takes a look at the myth/legend of Atlantis.

Reference Books on Atlantis (list from amazon by someone who looks like they know what the heck they’re researching…lol)

If you have any great Atlantis links, articles, book suggestions please post or email me and let me know! Thanks!

As you can see, we were paid a visit today by “Silky” as the boys have named him. He’s got to be the dumbest butterfly I’ve ever seen but he’s funny as can be. The thing keeps landing on me. I try to take him and put him on a bush and he’s like “no, rather be with you, scary lady.”

So, I have a friend now. Whoohoo. Sure, he can’t speak but he counts.

AND YES, I know my countertop has a coffee stain on it. See how you react when your kid thrusts a butterfly in your face while you’re holding a cup and then goes on to toss a refference book at you..while yelling ‘catch’. Umm, yeah.

My youngest son is trying to tell the butterfly about how wonderful pop-tarts are. Yeah, it’s going to be one of those days.

LOL
