View to a Kill by Mandy M. Roth

A trained assassin…a man even the deadliest of warriors fear. To cross him is foolish. To steal his heart is pure madness.

Book two in King of Prey series.

Sachin, head advisor to the king of the Accipitridae realm, has been forced to put his trips to Earth on hold. He’s not been honest with himself or King Kabril about his need to visit the primitive planet. The king thinks him to be a womanizer, out to bed as many human females as possible.

In truth, a woman he should have been able to woo with little to no effort-his mate-has found someone else to fill that void in her life. She wasn’t supposed to be on Earth. She wasn’t supposed to be human. And she sure the hell wasn’t supposed to agree to marry another man while Sachin was away.

Sachin must make a choice, give up the one woman he knows to be his true mate and let her live in ignorant bliss of what walks among her people, or fight for what’s his, taking it at all costs. A trained assassin…a man even the deadliest of warriors fear. To cross him is foolish. To steal his heart is pure madness.

Warning: This book contains hot, explicit sex and violence explained with contemporary, graphic language.

Blurb

After a failed uprising in Britannia, Sirona, a princess of the Iceni, and her lover, Taranis, are taken to Pompeii and sold as slaves. While Taranis is used to satisfy the demands of a rich Roman lady, Sirona is confined at the home of a lecherous senator until his step-son, General Lucius Flavius rescues her.

The lovers are briefly reunited but their situation takes a turn for the worse. Sirona finds herself in the clutches of the erotic cult of Dionysis and Taranis must fight for his life as a gladiator in the arena. Meanwhile, beneath Mount Vesuvius, there are forces gathering that even the power of the Romans cannot control.

Let me first start off by saying Deanna Ashford is an absolute delight in person. She truly is. Funny, charismatic and boy can the woman pen a sex scene. Is it hot in here or is it just me? After having the pleasure of meeting Ms. Ashford at RWA Nationals, I brought home the book she kindly offered me—Barbarian Prize. I’d never read a historical Black Lace novel before so I was skeptical at first. By page ten all my doubts were out the window. Wow. That about sums it up. Let me repeat that… WOW! Ms. Ashford can write not only sex but she captures the details and accuracy of the time period with ease, weaving them in a way that makes you forget about everything but her characters and their dilemma. I’m a sucker for an HEA and she had me wondering if it was going to happen. I won’t give any spoilers but I will say, she didn’t disappoint me. I’d also like to say… I want Taranis all to myself.

The Dark Garden by Eden Bradley

The Dark Garden

I had the pleasure of meeting Eden Bradley in Dallas at the RWA conference. She was charming and beautiful. I couldn’t wait to get home and dig into The Dark Garden. The tasteful erotic cover grabbed me the blurb held me.

(Blurb)
Rowan Cassidy likes to be in charge—especially in her personal life. As a mistress at Club Privé, the most exclusive bondage/S & M club on the West Coast, Rowan can live out her dominant fantasies safely, and with complete control—until the night Christian Thorne walks in. Self-confident and sophisticated, he’s a natural dominant if Rowan’s ever seen one. Yet she can’t stop thinking about him and imagining his touch.

Christian has returned home, hoping to break free from his dissatisfaction and malaise—and discovers the cure in Rowan. He’s dying to get his skilled hands on her and watch her surrender, to unlock the mystery of her that captivates him. Determined to be her master, he makes Rowan a daring proposition: give herself over to him for thirty days.

Rowan finds Christian’s offer terrifying—and impossible to resist. But abandoning herself to Christian’s power might be more than she can handle…. Or it might be the realization of her true nature and the dark garden within her. There will be only one way to find out. And once the game has begun, there’s no turning back.

The heroine’s journey to better understand herself and her needs was done with taste and elegance. The combination of two strong leads and fiery passion had me hooked from the page one. The secondary characters held my attention as well and I found myself rooting for all involved, hoping it would all work out in the end. BDSM for me is hit and miss. Eden Bradley handled it with finesse and in a way that has me on the edge of my seat awaiting her next book—The Darker Side of Pleasure.

Back in Black

July 18th, 2007

I’ve been horrible about keeping up on my post here. Sorry for that. I will try to do better. I just got back from RWA in Dallas. What a fun time! I was able to fangirl Nora Roberts and Madeline Hunter. I was also able to catch up with some near and dear friends… Michelle Pillow, Jaycee Clark, Angela James, Jaci Burton and many, many others. (Writing is a very solitary career and you meet a lot of people online. It’s a treat to be able to gather with them and not have to type while you “talk” to them.)

The signing on Wed was packed and for a good cause. The rest of the week was full of workshops, luncheons, spotlights and networking. I did manage to sneak away with a few others to go to dinner at Medieval Times Restaurant. We had a ton of fun there. I do have to say that whoever the very nice girl who was forced to sit next me was… needed a medal of honor at the end of that meal. She had to endure me. She and I petitioned for a new knight… we were hoping to land the blue one. He was a quite the looker *wink, wink*.

To make a long story short, RWA was fun and exciting and new to me. I thought I might be looked down upon there but each and every author I encountered welcomed me with open arms. Robyn Carr… I said it before and I’ll say it again… YOU ARE GREAT! (She had me in stitches)

I’ll be back soon with an even longer update on my trip. I’m going to go unpack and pass out.

The Advisor’s Apprentice

AA

Sought as mates because of their ability to wield magick, the Antistitas priestesses had been hunted almost to extinction by the warlords determined to possess them. But Teigen had no intention of becoming a mere possession, of no more value to the males who caught them than their horse.

Alerted to the attack on the village of Sabian, the king sends his advisor, his brother, Andrija to search for his wife’s sister, Teigen, and bring her to safety. From the moment Andrija captures her, however, he can think of nothing beyond claiming her for his own.
