Q: Tell us a little about your experience with Aphrodite’s Apples.
A: Aphrodite’s Apples is a wonderful publisher. Previously I was totally involved with another publisher that crashed and when that happened it was almost devastating. Aphrodite’s approached me days after that happened and asked me to submit to them, which I did. Immediately they were taken with Trojan Gold and accepted it for re-publication. I have had a wonderful relationship with them since. As “Orange” I moderate chats for The Romance Studio, where Aphrodite’s has a monthly chat set up for their authors, and it is always one of the best chats of my month. Their other authors and the editors are great.

Q: Tell us a little about your experience with Aphrodite’s Apples.
I remember way back when…in the summer of ‘05, first hearing the rumor of Aphrodite’s Apples on a Star Wars fanfic site. My faithful beta, PG, now known as Kayleigh Jamison, filled me in on the concept and asked if I wanted to submit a proposal. Sure, I figured. Why not? I’d just started writing erotica and hadn’t ever sent anything out into the wide world except my fanfiction. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.
Heather and Kayleigh, AA’s owner and chief editor, accepted my novel, The Summoner, on three sample chapters and the promise that, ‘More good stuff was gonna happen.’ LOL I had no idea that such faith was an exception – not a rule – in the publishing industry.
Since then, I’ve had my fair share of acceptances from other publishers, and perhaps more than my fair share of rejections…but I’ll always remember AA as being my first. The first ones to say, ‘Yes, we want your story.’ So, no matter how often I stray, I’ll continue to reserve some of my work for the wonderful ladies at AA. ‘Cause that’s my way of saying, ‘Thanks for believing in me before anyone else did.’ J

Marketing with Mandy Q: For anyone who doesn’t know who Aphrodite’s Apples is and what they do, could you please tell them a little bit about the company and yourself?
A: Hello, I’m HS Kinn, President of Aphrodite’s Apples. About me? I’m a former teacher and speech-language pathologist. I have been writing since I was a kid, and won awards for my poetry, even back then. I edited my first antho of poetry in college, at age 18. I’ve also sung lead vocals in a goth band! The writing bug has never left me though, and so I started Aphrodite’s Apples with some friends of mine. We were all in a critique group together online. Some of us had tried conventional publishing already, some hadn’t. Some of us had sampled eBooks, and we were of the opinion, “We could do better.” Egotistical, I know. And we’ve since found some really great books and authors at other houses. I think the moral of that story is that it’s not necessarily the size of the publisher that determines the quality of the work. It’s also very humbling to learn how much work goes into every title that you read. We opened in July of 2006, and started out with a handful of erotic romances. Now we have over 30 authors on site. We’ve also expanded from our general emphasis on romance and erotica, to include general fiction.
