Behind the Story with Selena Illyria
Dear Readers,
My name is Selena Illyria and my debut book, A Fling in Vampiropolis, releases March 28th at Changeling Press. The story is set in one of the few all Vamp cities in the U.S.A. Vampiropolis. The story started because I wanted to do a short paranormal vampire story. I had been wracking my brain for an idea I could latch onto. Something I could put my spin on. And suddenly it came to me, Vampiropolis a city of vampires, founded and run mostly by vampires. Then the idea became fleshed out a bit more When I added the hero and heroine into the story. My heroine, Nevada Justice, takes a vacation to a city very few mortals would dare travel to: Vampiropolis. She wanted something different, something unique and she got it. On the next to last day of her trip she goes to a local pub and meets the hero, Lucian Sandros: tall, blond, gorgeous and very forward.
I loved writing Lucian, he took what he wanted and made no excuses, he was charming, sexy and fun, something Nevada needed. It was supposed to be just a fling, something fun and quick and then she would leave with a sexy memory to take with her. But things started to rapidly happen and she started to feel things for him she hadn’t expected. I had originally planned for her to just have the fling and then leave, make it an actual one night stand. But the characters (Lucian) didn’t want it that way and I wanted to make him work for her. LOL.
I hadn’t planned on him spending her last day in Vamp City as it’s nicknamed, with her or for her to meet his sister Lida. By the time I had her meet Lida the original concept was thrown out the window as a new idea was forming. One where I could get what I wanted and Luc would have to work for Nevada. Lol. They end up fighting and they don’t make up by the time she leaves. That is where I wanted it to end. A series had blossomed in my head with the next book being Lida’s. But the best laid plans and all. I ended up having him go after her in Normalville, what vamps, shifters and others, call a place where the mortal or human population out numbers the paranormal populous.
What happens when he goes after her, well, I’ll let you read it in the book. I adore this world. The place is full of possibilities, sexiness, fun, danger and mystery. I can picture the city clearly in my mind. Gothic and yet modern where you can turn a corner and bump into a full blooded vamp and then have lunch with a shifter of any kind. A place where you can look at things like the Blood Tower or go shopping in Gothic Cross Square. Hmmm . . . perhaps I’ve said too much? LOL. Well, that’s all I can tell you for now.
