Personnel Files
Compiled for the ones who read the books twice. Open a file to review the operative's record, psych eval, and mate file. Files are spoiler-controlled: nothing is revealed until you open it.
PSI-001 Marlow, Duke Team Five, Elite Tracker — Open File ▾
| Species | Natural-born wolf-shifter (lycan), immortal. 250+ years; fought in the American Revolution as a young teen, then Vietnam and Iraq. Reinvents his human identity every 20-25 years, repeatedly the sole beneficiary of his own fortune. |
| Abilities | Elite tracker (can track just about anything through anywhere); a hell of an aim; partial shifts; lifts cars one-ended. |
| Weaknesses | Technology (two-finger typist, crushes phones, "cursed" computer); flying; Paris; the French; hospitals; paperwork; just about everything. |
| Psych Eval | Broody, defiant to authority. Past Asshole-of-the-Week winner (cleared a vampire den armed with a stick). |
| Mate | Dr. Mercy Deluca. Genius biomedical engineer, part pixie, Corporation whistleblower. Claimed her while chained in a holding cell. She now heads PSI R&D, Division B. Child on record (expected). |
| Service Notes | A rescued chimpanzee has been named "Lil' Duke" in his honor; subject remains unamused. |
"But I love you and I've never loved anything in all my life."
PSI-002 Hagen, James "Jimmy," M.D. Division B, Head Physician — Open File ▾
| Species | Natural-born alpha wolf-shifter with enough Fae in his DNA to sense fellow magiks. Centuries old. Alias: "Doc Wolf." Corporation designation: Test Subject 87P. |
| Gift | Uncontrolled foresight. Foresaw his mate before meeting her; post-captivity, struggles to separate visions from nightmares. |
| Captivity | Held and tortured nearly a year by the Corporation's Dr. Bertrand, whose self-injections of Hagen's DNA turned him into a disfigured hybrid obsessed with being "fixed." |
| Psych Eval | A healer first. Dry wit; once failed as a hot-dog-stand owner and would prefer that stay redacted. |
| Mate | Laney Steele. Hacker "GothGirl," purple-streaked hair, Asia Project engineered supernatural. His anonymous online chat partner and the woman from his visions. Mated; he calls her wife. |
"Get a fucking grip, Jimmy."
PSI-003 Walsh, Miles "Boomer" Team Five, Field Operative — Open File ▾
| Species | Born werepanther (prefers "panther"). Immortal; officially long dead, barely a footnote in history. Does not exist on paper. |
| Description | Goth punk: black leather, black lipstick and eyeliner, silver bat earrings, extensive piercings worn despite a natural silver allergy; panther tattoo. |
| Abilities | Possibly the most lethal operative in PSI, except for his captain. Panther shift; welcomes pain. |
| Psych Eval | Runs and funds an animal rescue sanctuary: large cats, wolves, snakes, the chimpanzee Lil' Duke, and Scar, a one-eyed panther. Evaluators note the sanctuary explains more about the subject than this entire file. |
| Mate | Haven Carey, veterinary student, part-vampire Asia Project hybrid. Sent to kill him; mated via mutual bite instead. Now the sanctuary's head vet. Child on record (expected). |
| Service Notes | Origin of the call sign "Boomer" remains classified. Subject's answer on record: "Long story." |
"My own mother wanted me dead. So, I have a longstanding history with women who prefer me six feet under."
PSI-004 Jones, Corbin Amias Herman Captain, Team Five — Open File ▾
| Species | Immortal lion-shifter. English ("Most called him British... the truth was, he was English"). Hundreds of years old; last dated seriously in the 1920s; looks thirty. |
| Description | Male-underwear-model looks; long blond hair in a man-bun. Following a headquarters lab explosion, hair tips currently pink. His mate finds this delightful. |
| Weaknesses | His mother, a terrifying, hopelessly romantic London matchmaker who arranges him a date every decade or so. She arranged this one. Also: his mate's scent (honey, cinnamon, vanilla). |
| Psych Eval | Orderly, reserved, dryly far-too-British. Fond of jazz and gin. Commands the division's most chaotic roster with visible fatigue and invisible affection. |
| Mate | Mae Bertelot. Siren-blooded fine-arts student, born in a Corporation breeding facility. He canceled their blind date; fate did not accept the cancellation. Mated in captivity. Child on record (expected). |
| Service Notes | Facility raid and auction takedown. Postscript: his mother has relocated to America. The Captain has requested hazard pay. |
"Ever since you came into my life, I've had no control whatsoever."
PSI-005 Nasser, Malik "Tut" Team Five, Field Operative — Open File ▾
| Species | Lion-shifter, born in ancient Egypt; thousands of years old. Classified addendum: demi-god. Tattoos read "son of the god king." Walked away from his own throne. |
| Abilities | Lion shift; immense strength and speed; rapid healing. God-mode: skin shimmers gold, eyes burn red-amber; in this state he ripped the ancient Fae Elm in two. |
| Weaknesses | Call sign "Tut" (barely tolerated). One (1) public lion shift on record, with mandatory leave to follow. |
| Psych Eval | Vain, magnificent, aware of both. Closest ally: vampire Auberi Bouchard (Crimson Ops), who invents him a fake birthday every year since he won't reveal the real one. |
| Mate | Brooke Larner. Daughter of a royal Fae queen and a shifter co-founder of PSI. Claimed in Egypt five years prior. Daughter: Bethany, four, amber-eyed lion-shifter. Married; second child expected. |
| Service Notes | Elm terminated (see god-mode, above). Subject's request to expense the destroyed club furniture: denied. |
"I like to think I'm just an extra awesome cat-shifter with a great ass."
PSI-006 Ingersson, Garth Captain, Team Eight — Open File ▾
| Species | Immortal wolf-shifter; born Viking Age Scandinavia, roughly 1,200 years old. Fought in countless wars including both World Wars. |
| Twin | Grid Ingersson. Deranged monster embedded high in The Corporation. Garth stopped Auberi from ending him a century ago and has carried it since. |
| Abilities | Master swordsman; antique-weapons collector ("curator"); enhanced strength and senses; full shift. |
| Psych Eval | Gruff, honorable, dry. Prays to Odin; believes dying in battle grants Valhalla. Fears loved ones' deaths, never his own. |
| Mate | Nicolette Henebury. Preschool teacher; lab-created hybrid, one of the experiment children Team Eight itself rescued twenty years ago. Met when she collided with him ("I cupcaked him"); the mate-bond struck instantly. |
| Service Notes | Uneasy truce with Bouchard, now family. Grid actively hunting at file close. |
"No! She is not his mate! She's mine!"
PSI-007 Romanov, Rurik Team Eight, Second-in-Command — Open File ▾
| Species | Kamchatka brown-bear shifter. Age 265. Russian; began in the Tsarist secret police, later tight with the KGB. Never officially defected, a fact Duke Marlow will not let die. |
| Abilities | Bear shift (battle form: catastrophic); command-grade operative who required arm-twisting to accept second seat. |
| Weaknesses | Berserk rage when his mate is threatened; the small American man claiming to be his father. |
| Psych Eval | Stoic, dry, long-suffering. Currently disputing paternity claims from one (1) Wild Bill, who is centuries his junior. |
| Mate | Liberty Mansfield. Fae-gifted telekinetic genetics PhD student. Twenty years ago, the rescued lab child who hid under Rurik's desk; he let her braid his hair and named her "Little Paw." Assigned to surveil her; recognized his mate. Mated by file close. |
| Service Notes | Terminated Pavel Orlov, polar-bear shifter and Corporation asset. Corporation operative Olga escaped. |
"Stop calling me Boris. It's not my name."
PSI-008 McCracken, Dougal "Striker" Special Ops, Field Operative — Open File ▾
| Species | Scottish wolf-shifter, alpha male. Born 1267. Ran with William Wallace; fought at Biggar. Does not discuss it. |
| Description | Very tall and large; auburn hair; green eyes holding nothing but mischief. Prefers a kilt to tactical pants. Owns novelty tees ("have stake, will use"). |
| Weaknesses | Sugar (team-enforced ban); mathematics; the use of his first name. |
| Psych Eval | Read as comic relief; nothing could be further from the truth. He is always watching, always calculating points of attack. The wild persona disarms others and protects his own grief. Good with children. |
| Mate | Edee Lachenbruch. Fae fire-starter, gifts unlocked by Corporation captivity. Met on a rigged Egypt resort trip; one chaste night of banter haunted them both for years. Claimed as his wife; child expected. |
| Service Notes | Case closed, seven centuries late. |
"I was born in 1267."
